MARY SCHILLER, aka Mary in Paris
Coach, can people "binge" you?
I read a book recently that really got me thinking differently about my coaching business. It's called Oversubscribed, by Daniel Priestley. Although I don't love everything in the book, I do recommend it. (Here is my Amazon affiliate link to it: https://geni.us/gazFQqS. It will take a moment to load.)
In the book, he mentions that there is sort of a formula for getting people to trust us:
-11 interactions
- 7 hours of content for them to consume
- 4 platforms/methods of interacting with us
You need to aim for having a minimum of 7 hours of content that someone could consume to learn more about you: reading, listening, watching.
Caveat: When you're just starting out, do NOT try to be everywhere! You can repurpose content you create, as well. Focus on ONE platform and get good at it. You can always take a YouTube video and share it on FB, create a snippet for Instagram, and link to it in a blog post.
I started thinking about the platforms I currently have:
1. my website (I actually have 2 websites, but as I'm writing this post, I'm working on one of them so I took it down briefly)
2. my books on Amazon
3. my YouTube channel
4. my email list
5. my podcast, The Real Coach Convo (just started this)
6. my free (and sometimes) paid masterclasses/talks
7. my SoundCloud audios
8. my Instagram account
9. my FB profile (and business page, though I'm not sure how much that matters these days)
That's quite a few places where people can find me, but I realized I could do even more.
So I decided to add an official blog to my MaryInParis website. (When I restart my MarySchiller site, I'll have one there, too.)
I have a client who loves writing on Medium, so that's another option. There are lots of online publishing choices. Some people enjoy creating their own Substack publication. I've thought about that, myself.
And of course, there are plenty of social media platforms. I don't happen to like TikTok, Twitter or LinkedIn. They all bore me!
If I had to say which platforms have garnered the most meaningful connections with people that have also brought in business it would be these (not necessarily in any order):
- my live talks/masterclasses
- my YouTube channel
- my books
What do you think? What's your takeaway from this post?
